Once we start to develop the spine and the sense of self with the Stingray, we move to the third card in the Water element- the Fish.
The numerology of Three roots the fish into change, expansion, creativity, and interconnection to a bigger idea, manifestation, or vision. Click here to read an article about the numerology of Three.
The Fish speaks to moving with your emotions, yet holding firm to the sense of self that we have cultivated with the Stingray.
As we are working with the element of Water, the focuses or themes with this element include emotions, intuition, dreams, symbolism, interconnection, and relatedness (how we relate to other things).
I recommend going back and reading first on the Crocodile and then the Stingray so that you can see how the energies, consciousness, and perspective are starting to grow and build on each other.
I also have done a deep dive into all the animals from the Earth element in this deck, which you can check out as well.
So, let’s start moving and finding focus with the Fish
Moving and Finding Focus with the Fish
It may be easy to write the Fish off as a forgettable animal; a being that holds little consequence, or at least less than some of the more “majestic” creatures in our beautiful world. It is a mistake to hold that kind of view with the Fish.
Fish are beautiful creatures. They are sensitive, ancient, and have unique personalities. They contribute to the ecosystems they live in, and many can move from salt to freshwater with ease.
That is one of the greatest things about the Fish- the ease and fluid nature they invite. It is easy to get bogged down and bear all the heavy loads of this world. The Fish asks you to remove and lighten your load. Click here to read fascinating facts about Fish.
The Fish is the animal of constant movement, sensitivity, and sensory perception. The Fish is the animal that comes forward when movement and finding your flow can be of huge benefit to what you are moving through. This could mean looking at the way each day changes from one to the next. It could be finding a sense of surrender to the bigger picture. It could be adapting to the changes in life, and finding a way to bring that ease and grace into your life, lessening the stress. This could be letting your emotions and intuition be one of, if not the main guide that moves you through life.
Again, this sounds much easier than it is in real life. In real life, we are conditioned to negate our intuitive voices. We are discouraged to be in the present moment, observing and moving without taking everything into our emotional capacity (this is a part of the Shadow side of Fish). Finding a way to surrender goes against the nature of the mental state and the ego.
The Fish is the card where we start to learn how to use our intuition and emotions as a guide as we move through the waters of life. We begin to build that bond of internal understanding and relinquish linear movement or rational understanding. The Fish encourages us to find a way to be in the current of life, without getting lost or overwhelmed. This is why building the bond of receiving from your intuition and emotional truth is crucial, because there are so many easy ways that it can be derailed or become distracted.
Guidance from the guidebook
Some key references from the guidebook

When in balance: adaptable, travels well
When out of balance: distracted, changes mind often
To bring into balance: set a small goal and accomplish
Following the guidance from the guidebook, working with the Fish is about finding ways to adapt and travel, and I don’t mean purchasing a plane ticket (although if that is speaking to you, great!). I mean traveling in the form of moving through your life. The Fish is there for you even if nothing has changed or your strict routine rarely alters.
The Fish is about recognizing where you feel restless, and where you can apply a new direction to your life. Because the Fish is in the water element, the first thing you may want to consider when working with this animal or card is how your change of focus should be first approached through an emotional or intuitive lens. It may feel safe to apply logic and reason to all decisions (and I am not saying don’t every use logic to make a decision). What I am saying is that sometimes what looks good logically or rationally goes deeply against what we want in our hearts.
When we aren’t tuning into the liminal voice of our intuition, external factors become untethered from us. We may feel like we need to move from thing to thing to gain a sense of control, but all we are doing is getting lost deeper in the currents of life. What we need to do when working with the Fish is come back to the liminal within. The guidebook even mentions that we need to find a connection to the Moon and lunar cycles (evident from the Moon in the image) to soothe our souls and come back to the intuitive, magickal waters of our inner oceans.
So, when working with this energy listen to your heart and your intuitive voice. What do you want to do or give from this space? That is the task of the Fish- finding your emotional flow and then setting into motion a manageable way to move through that goal from start to finish.

Hello there! I hope you liked this blog post. As a tarot and oracle reader, my goal with my blogs is to offer you content, resources, and access to the tools that have transformed my life.
I believe that your own intuition is the deepest form of knowing, but here in my little corner of the internet, I share insights based in intuition and instinct. I share my love for nature, witchcraft, and the wild spirit.
- If your spirit is at home in wild places
- If you feel the need to claim your autonomy as ritual
- If you want to more deeply trust your own intuition
- If you want resources or connections to tarot, oracle, witchcraft, and wild sovereignty, then welcome!

The Moon
The Moon gives us the permission slip to play, to dream, to let loose our normal logical selves, and tap into the primal, inexplicable, and palpable energies within. She conjures our intuition and psychic knowing to come through more clearly. The Moon has been one of the greatest symbols of female divinity, a symbol that is still under threat. Her ties to women, those on the fringe, and those who face subjugation, including the natural world herself, are timeless, sacred, and cannot be understated.
