This blog post is an edited, updated, and reformed version of a spell that I put out, first on TikTok, right after the overturning of Roe vs. Wade.
The day that this happened (June 24th, 2022), I remember sitting out in the rain, under my little camping gazebo, and sobbing- the same tears that fell the night that Trump was elected, and was inevitably able to stack the Supreme Court with extremist right-wing judges who lied through their teeth, saying this was simply giving the ruling back to the states. It was never about that.
I remember at that time being so angry. I still am. We are still hearing the horror stories.
And there are other horror stories. Horror stories overseas. Horror stories here at home, and there always will be. Horror stories from each corner of the globe, affecting people’s lives in unimaginable ways.
This coupled with the personal rage of private life- the type of rage that affects you personally- made me want to redo and finesse this Rage Spell for you to use for whatever you need.
A quick note on the difference between rage spells and curses / hexes
This is a complicated and controversial topic. Many saying that any spells of this kind should never be done because it can reverberate back to you- the whole what you send out comes back to you times three. I don’t subscribe to that narrative because I’m not Wiccan and this idea of three-fold is known as the Law of Return or the Three-fold Law in Wicca as a religious tenet.
This can also be seen in the Law of Attraction, and in the power of mind. Many people have this idea that no one should ever perform a rage spell, or curse or hex because when you are focusing on that kind of energy, you are bringing it closer to you, allowing it stir, fester, and build in your mind, energy, and attention, which allows it to manifest in your life, ping-ponging so to speak.
I will leave you to decide what you feel is right for you, and for your practice.
For me, I believe a few things:
1.) Curses, hexes, and rage spells absolutely have a place in witchcraft and in someone’s personal practice. My practice and my witchcraft is a deep part of my identity, and it is intertwined with my values, my processing of thoughts and emotions, and my connection to the world. Using these spells to meet the edges, hurt, and violators of this world is the only way I know how to show up in certain settings.
2.) While I believe that these types of spells DO have a place in a witch’s personal practice, there needs to be a level of discernment and reasoned understanding when doing these types of spells. If you start cursing or hexing or raging at everything that is affecting you or your life, you are diluting the intention of these types of spells. You are also going to burn yourself out. I also think it goes without saying that acting that way would also just be extremely childish.
3.) Like above, I also believe that some of these spells shouldn’t be the immediate go-to. There should be an attempt to find alternatives, transparency, communication, active listening, or common ground beforehand.
With that being said, let’s discuss the difference between a rage spell and a curse or a hex, and how you can approach one without stepping into the other.
A rage spell is – well, just that. It is an expression of your rage. I like to approach the idea and act of a rage spell like when men tell women to smile more. Just smile more. You’re so pretty when you smile more. Women are told this because we aren’t allowed to many spaces to have a feeling that pushes against the status quo, and then the pendulum swings between irrational (because we are so emotional…..) or crazy feminists who will never get a man.
The patriarchy is truly fucking exhausting sometimes…..
So, a rage spell is simply letting the world know you AREN”T smiling. You are enraged. You are hurt. You are snarling back. You are standing your ground, and not backing down from the truth you feel.
A rage spell is letting the rage you feel towards personal and collective bullshit be met with the force of your power- like a mother bear. It is a form of meeting the resistance, foe, or force head on with your desire for protection, goodness, or just a lack of willing to deal with complete bullshit. When doing a rage spell, the intention is to make it known what you stand for and against, what you will advocate, protect, speak for, and do against the oppressive forces at play. It truly is standing up and not backing down, making your voice heard.
This excerpt below is from the Holy Wild: The Heathen Bible for the Untamed Woman by Danielle Dulsky. First of all, this book is one of the best things I have ever read. Second, Dulsky perfectly sums up (in this whole chapter actually) the need for our rage to be part of our practice.
That is one of the biggest differences between a rage spell and a curse / hex- a rage spell is meant to conjure authentic resistance to the bullshit. It is a testament to you not going down without a fight, not turning away, and especially not turning your volume to appease the forces that be.
But… a rage spell can be part of a curse or hex if you choose. If you are cursing someone or hexing them, chances are you are feeling some rage. Again, I feel these spells are valid in a practice.
I personally am not going to just let something steam roll over me, or the world. I will not sit on my hands while people or forces or ideas cause devastation and destruction. Some times a banishing or binding spell won’t do. Sometimes, you need to meet these forces at the fuck-around-and-find-out table and eat from the plate of your righteous power.
I see curses and hexes as a natural part of the cause and consequence for someone who has a witchcraft practice. If someone tries something with me, and it can’t be worked through with conversation, boundaries, or protection, then yeah, I am going to pull from that section in my grimoire. Sorry, not sorry.
You are allowed to have the spells in your practice that are a river, and the ones that are a storm. I also like to remind myself with rage spells, along with curses and hexes (or any spell), that I am sending it out to the Universe to manifest. Yes, I am doing certain things to help that spell be as successful as possible, but there is also an element of surrender with all spells that the Universe and the Divine are going to influence it to do what it needs to do.
The Rage Spell
So, here are the images of the spell. If you would like the pdf download version, please scroll to the link below (clicking this will add to you my email list). Please use this in any way that aligns with your values, your emotions, your truth, and your right to divine rage. This spell that I created was inspired by the entire Fire Verses chapter in Danielle Dulsky’s book The Holy Wild, so click here if you would like to purchase your own copy. Most metaphysical shops and small book stores near you, should have this book too. I cannot recommend this book enough.
A few things to note before you do the spell, please make sure you are ready to do it from an emotionally honest place. I say honest and not supported (while I do advocate for that), because honesty means you recognize that engaging in this spell may open a closing wound. It may heighten something that you need to sit with afterwards. Check in to see if it is best to wait until another time, or if the rawness will aid the spell to some benefit.
Also, if using tokens or symbols for your rage, please don’t purchase thing that will aid that force that you are confronting. For example, if your token is a MAGA hat to speak for your rage against Trump, don’t buy the hat. Buying the hat supports him, and his cause, so print a picture and use that.
This spell works best on a Full Moon, or on a Dark Moon (which would be helpful if you are working to channel any Dark Mother or Dark Goddess energy). Let me know what your thoughts are with this topic, and with your own personal workings with this spell.
